Job description: Intern Economic Section
A. BASIC INFORMATION
In 2013, Dutch companies exported for Euro 3.5 billion to Korea. This makes Korea the fourth largest export market for the Netherlands in Asia. Important export items are machinery for the semiconductor industry and food products. The number of Dutch entrepreneurs and Dutch companies in Korea is steadily increasing. Dutch exporters often partner up with Korean agents or distributors to enter the Korean market. With the help of an enthusiastic intern, the embassy wants to update and expand its current database of these people and companies. Additionally, the embassy wants to start holding events to support these companies with their business in/with Korea. The length of the internship is 5 months: February 23 until July 22, 2015.
B. TASKS AND EXPECTED RESULTS
Description of tasks:
Database
- contact companies in the current database to verify the latest information;
- contact Korean organizations like KOTRA, ECCK, KITA, KOIMA and KCCI to search for other Dutch companies and agents of Dutch companies;
- update the embassy database with the new information.
Survey and networking event
- survey the companies to investigate how the embassy can assist these companies;
- organize an event that addresses these issues;
- make recommendations for a short and midterm business support strategy.
Others:
- assist in preparing itineraries for and facilitating visits of Dutch visitors;
- contribute to an enabling working environment through a positive work attitude and pleasant and cooperative behaviour;
- give any ad hoc assistance to sections of the embassy that may be required;
- work in an open and constructive way with all embassy staff.
Description of expected results:
- up-to-date and large database of Dutch companies and Korean agents and distributors;
- successful networking event;
- present findings and recommendations to embassy staff;
- satisfied customers and smoothly running visits;
- good work atmosphere that enables the efficient and productive functioning of the Economic
Department.
C. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Short description of the embassy:
The embassy currently employs six expatriate staff and 20 locally recruited staff, as well as one intern. Its main tasks are related to trade, investment and innovation. The embassy consists of four sections:
 General and Consular affairs section
 Economic and Commercial section (Agriculture, Science & Technology, Investment)
 The Netherlands Education Support Office (NESO) has two staff members working inside the embassy.
D. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB
Knowledge and experience:
- major in business administration, marketing, international business or a related field (just graduated);
- relevant working experience (e.g. internship, volunteering, extra curriculum activities, part-time job);
- broad knowledge and interest;
- excellent knowledge of both Korean and English.
